Gmail reader by Wasky1 Gmail reader by Wasky1
@@@Updated 13th April, 2010@@@

Completely re-Wrote this skin to include some variables, so you can fit to your theme, so if theres any bugs please let me know.

enter your gmail details in the Variables.inc file included in the skin folder(this is where you can edit colors too)

you can drag a small area just to the right of the evelope icon. (it is quite narrow(sorry))

Any questions/criticisms/thaughts please feel free :)

maybe a screen shot of the .inf file showing where and how to enter the user name and password... seems a lot of people are having a problem understanding this. of course don't include YOUR un/pw but make up a fictitious one.

ok so... for those of you having problems with where to enter in your credentials....Go tO the following lines in the .inf file and edit the 4 spots i have put in CAPITAL'S and surrounded with smilies DO NOT USE THIS CODE as it is broken in this message for purposes of demonstration and keeping this shorter than it is in the .inf file.

be sure to remove the # symbols from around the user and password so it should like as follows : this is an example using a fictitious login credential.

Url=htttps://john.doe:mypassword123@gmail.google.com/gmail/feed/atom

Do not remove the : symbol separating the user and password. you do not have to use @gmail.com with the user name.

i made the exact modifications above and the skin worked exactly as described.

good luck.

another tip...

again i will use CAPITALS and Smiles to indicate the changes to make.

for the skin to retrieve or "update" its self nice and quick like make a change to where it says #Messageinterval#.

if when you first set up the skin and it is working, you may notice that when you click on the envolope, to the left it will say "Message InboxUSERNAME" (substitute USERNAME with your username) and you may notice that there is no spacing between this. to fix that there is another #user# that needs to be modified and instead place your username there.

again, this code does not work that i am posting in this comment, as it has been modified to shorten up the comment.

Measure= Plugin
Plugin= Plugins\WebParser.dll

UpdateRate==p#MESSAGEINTERVAL#=p
Substitute=#Substitute#

set the message interval value to a comfortable update rate for you. i have set mine to 10, which equates to 10 seconds ( i like knowing exactly when mail comes in ;) ) if you want it to be a minute set it to 60, if you want it to be 10 minutes set it to 600. remember, this value is measured in seconds.

Works great for my personal gmail account...

Any idea how to get it for a gmail account that doesn't end in @gmail.com? (ex: my school email is provided through gmail, but ends in @allegheny.edu) I looked through the file and gave it my best attempt but it didn't seem to work.

Great job! Best one I've been able to find...my only wish is that there was an easy way to make the icon bigger, but I can't seem to find an easy way to do so in the code. Is there any way to make the envelope icon a bit bigger? Or is it stuck at that one size?

Nonetheless, great skin!!!

I love this skin and have been using it for a while. I was just wondering, you weren't maybe working on a hotmail and or a yahoo mail version of this a "Hotmail reader" or "Yahoo Reader" by any chance. Would you? (; Hint, hint. That would be great to have all your email accounts different emails readily available at anytime.

Is there anyway I could get this to literally just be the icon, not the fully expanded version, so I could just see how many emails I have, then instead of it expanding when I click it, send it to my in-box?

I've been searching forever, I can't find just a simple icon to show how many emails.

But apart from the fact it's too big for my theme, this is good and I'll use it for my next. :)

there is a way with rainmeter(not this skin) BUT you are required by hotmail ect to have a paid account, plus the mailmeter.dll for that is thurd party, and doesn't work with x64, cant tell you how stable it is with new rainmeter i havent tried it. best option i reckon is to have gmail fetch your mail from your live and hotmail accounts (like i do). in gmail just goto "Settings/Accounts and Import"
(first address i set up was quick, second took a while to authurise but it came through eventually)
